#AVE MARIA FRANZ BIEBL MIDI REGISTRATION#

This afternoon’s performance features a transcription of the mixed choir version since it better suits the registration of the symphonic band.Ī translation of the Latin text is as follows:Īnd blessed is the fruit thy womb, Jesus. Thanks to the insight of band conductor Robert Cameron, concert bands now can experience the beauty of Biebl’s music.

As such, this piece has also been adapted for mixed choir and women’s choir as well. Having been included on various recording projects and in the standard repertoire of the popular vocal group Chanticleer, Biebl’s Ave Maria has since enjoyed tremendous popularity.

American audiences first became familiar with Biebl’s music through a performance by the Cornell University Glee Club, a group which brought this work to the U.S. Completed in 1964 at the request of a firemen’s choir in Fürstenfeldbruck, this beautiful piece was originally intended for seven-part men’s chorus. Perhaps Biebl’s best known work is Ave Maria. The only editing which has been made are the addition of limited octave doublings and the addition of bar lines in order to facilitate performance of the freestyle chant sections. This adaptation is a transcription rather than an arrangement in that every attempt has been made to preserve every possible detail of the original. The version utilized in this transcription, however, is the version for mixed choir selected because it better matches the registration of the wind ensemble or symphonic band.
